DIGICEL BATTLE OF THE MINDS KICKS OFF 2009

August 18th 2009 - Digicel Battle of the Minds launches its fourth year of competition

Aug 18th, 2009, Apia: Following on the success from previous years. Digicel have announced their sponsorship for the 2009 Digicel Battle of the Minds Quiz. A Rotaract incentive – Digicel have been a major player in the success of the show being Naming Rights sponsor for the quiz from its initiation in 2006.

“Empowering the Youth is the drive behind the quiz and Digicel are always in support of activities that promote education” said Pepe Christian Fruean, CEO of Digicel Samoa. “We’re excited to be a part of this incentive four years running.”

Being a community driven initiative, partners for the Digicel Battle of the Minds extend beyond Digicel and the Rotaract Club of Apia. Quality Broadcasting Corporation or TV1 have rendered their generous assistance through free production and advertising for the Digicel Battle of the Minds and MESC will be providing the questions from Year 12 curriculum as well as judges for the quiz each Saturday.

Digicel’s Battle of the Minds Quiz will commence on the 5th September taking place every Saturday for seven weeks. TV1 will air the show weekly with times to be confirmed at a later date.

Eight Secondary Schools/Colleges have thus far registered interest for their Year 12 students to participate in this year’s quiz competition with more expected to confirm before the end of the week. These schools include:

Samoa College Maluafou College
Avele College St Mary’s College
Leififi College St Joseph’s College
Faatuatua Christian College Paul VI College

Keeping in line with promoting education, prizes for this year’s Digicel Battle of the Minds Quiz will include student scholarships, stationery and school equipment.
